Mr. Woody Gehlert - Director of Bands Woody Gehlert was born in Doylestown, Pennsylvania and he currently resides in Virginia Beach, Virginia with his wife Edie, their son Brady and their twin daughters Megan and Molly. He received his B.S. degree in Music Education at West Chester University in West Chester, PA. He has also done graduate work at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia and Shenandoah University, in Winchester, VA. Mr. Gehlert is currently in his 25th year as a high school band director. He has taught for 5 years in Maryland, 3 years in Delaware, 1 year in Northampton County Public Schools and he is in his 16th year as a Director of Bands in the Virginia Beach City Public Schools. As the Director of Bands at Princess Anne High School and Landstown High School, Mr. Gehlert’s groups have set a standard for excellence in Concert, Marching and Jazz Bands. In his tenure at Princess Anne High School, the band has received over 200 awards for outstanding performance. In 1998, while at Princess Anne High School, his Marching Band participated in the Inaugural Parade for Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore. Currently Mr. Gehlert is the Director of Bands at Landstown High School in Virginia Beach, VA. Landstown High School opened in 2001 and in their first season Mr. Gehlert’s band received over 20 awards for outstanding performance. Since then they have been recognized as the USSBA Group 3A Virginia State Champion in 2003. They have received several Superior ratings at festivals and have been recognized as a “Blue Ribbon School’” by the Virginia Music Educators Association. Mr. Gehlert is active as a conductor, clinician and as an adjudicator for Middle and High School Bands. He is an active member of MENC, VMEA, and the VBODA. He is as so a former Adjudicator for the National Judges Association. On behalf of the Landstown High School "Marching Eagles", I would like to welcome you to our website and more importantly, to introduce our band program to you. The Landstown High School "Marching Eagles" have completed their seventh competition season with much success. The "Marching Eagles" competed in 6 competitions last fall and earned over 30 trophies for their outstanding performances. I believe in making a strong commitment to the success of our students. It is very important for us to have active parental support group to ensure this success. We have established an active band parents organization to help foster this support from all of our band parents. I would like to invite anyone interested in becoming a member of our Band Parents Association to contact me for more information.
